Jávea (Xàbia) is built around three centres: the inland old town, with the fortified church of San Bartolomé and the market; the port, with its fish auction and seafood restaurants; and the Arenal, the beach and nightlife area. Around them, the Montgó Natural Park and Cap de la Nau hold the trails and viewpoints.
The old town: golden tosca stone
The historic village sits inland, sheltered from the old attacks from the sea. Its streets are built in golden tosca stone and its centre is the fortified church of San Bartolomé, which doubled as a refuge.
This is the area for aimless walking, a drink on a square and everyday local life. The municipal market is the best morning stop for fresh produce.
The port: fish and sunsets
The port still keeps its fishing fleet and its auction house. It is the most honest place to eat fish and shellfish from the bay, with the Virgen de Loreto chapel and its keel-shaped roof as a landmark.
Boat trips along the coast leave from here, and on foot it is where the Muntanyar coastline begins.
The Arenal and the bay
The Arenal is the beach and leisure heart: promenade, terraces, water sports and evening atmosphere. It is the easiest base with children or if you want everything within walking distance.
Kayaks and paddleboards are rented from the bay, and snorkelling trips head south towards the coves.
Montgó Natural Park and viewpoints
The Montgó dominates the view between Jávea and Dénia and has trails for every level, from gentle walks through pines to demanding climbs. Walk early: midday summer sun is unforgiving.
The other side is the Cap de la Nau viewpoints, with cliffs above the sea and the best views in the area at sunset.

Short trips from Jávea
Within half an hour by car you reach Dénia and its castle, Moraira, Benitachell and the Cim del Sol viewpoint, and the inland villages of the Marina Alta. It is a small, varied region: sea, mountain and vineyards in the same day.
